Abstract

The title of this thesis is “The Effectiveness of Using Rehearsal Strategy in Teaching Students Vocabulary”, the study was conducted at SMPN 1 Lhoksukon. Students of SMPN 1 Lhoksukon had some difficulties in learning vocabulary. The students are difficult to memorize all vocabularies that they find. An appropriate method was needed to improve students’ ability in learning vocabulary. So, researcher used the rehearsal strategy.

The problem of the research is; is there any effectiveness of rehearsal strategy in teaching vocabulary to the second year students of SMPN 1 Lhoksukon. Meanwhile, the objective of the study is to know whether using rehearsal strategy is effective in teaching vocabulary. The design applied in this study is quantitative approach by using true experimental design with Pre Test and Post Test Control Group Design.

This design involved two groups, one group was given the experimental treatment (experimental group) and another group without being given treatment (control group). In collecting the data, the researcher gave pre-test and post-test. She took the second year students of SMPN 1 Lhoksukon. The researcher analyzed the data by using the formula of t test by Suharsimi Arikunto.

The result of t test score were analyzed and interpreted to the t-table, the finding of t-test score was 4,4, it was bigger than t-table score there was 1,66. Based on the result of t-test score the score was bigger than t-table score, it meant alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted, the value was significance based on the score of t score, as a result, rehearsal strategy was effective to increase their ability in vocabulary lesson especially noun and verb.
